Hinders Bait Consultant Andy Little details below his 'Elastic Band Rig' which he has used to great effect whilst fishing for Barbel & Chub.
I have received a lot of enquiries regarding the rig I mentioned earlier this week concerning how I construct my elastic band rig in combination with the Small Elips Pellets. Basically I cut a length of thin elastic band and then superglue four small pellets to the band. The trick to make sure that they adhere properly is to just lick the flat side of the pellet to moisten it before glueing to the elastic band.
The rig itself is a simple knotless knot tied strong pattern of hook, in this case a size 14, and then simply hook the band onto the bend close to the pellets and cut off the excess elastic band. Recently I have been fishing this rig in combination with a small PVA bag of mixed sized pellets. This seems to work much better than the barbel getting preoccupied with just one size so you can see here that I have small, medium and large sized Elips pellets in close proximity to the bag of freebies that is just attached to the hook.
My own preference is for a long hook link usually somewhere between 4 and 6 feet with a 3 oz inline gripper style lead. The PVA bag also helps to straighten the hook link and give it a soft touch down amongst any weed. Some anglers prefer a short hook link and a back lead, both methods seem to work well. Hope you all have a great weekend and bag a few nice barbel."
