Name:Lucas Newall
Lives in:Otley, West Yorkshire
Occupation:Student
Angling category:Match fishing and pleasuring on natural venues

Describe yourself as an angler:I started fishing at about 7 years old, learning the ropes with my dad and grandad on local ponds. As I picked up more knowledge, I moved on to commercial venues and started getting into matches. After winning my first two junior club matches, I made it to the Northern Mania final twice, then moved up to fishing adult matches, winning numerous sections and placing second overall a couple of times. Recently my main focus has shifted to the rivers, chasing that big barbel.

My most confident style is feeder fishing on commercials, there’s nothing like watching that tip go round. I like to be competitive, but I also value being able to just relax and fish without the pressure sometimes.

Favourite venue:Woodlands Tackle and Lakes, Thirsk, & the river Trent
Favourite species:Barbel

Favourite method/ approach: Feeder fishing and down the edge.
Favourite hinders bait:I love using Barbel Bomb Feeder Mixwith a few Elips pellets chucked in. It’s my go-to mix for rivers and where I feel most confident.

Most memorable session:I’ve had many good days, 100lb+ catches at Woodlands, all on the feeder, but the best moment was definitely landing my first ever double-figure barbel, a new PB, on the Trent.

Target for next 12 months:I’m aiming to win an adult match at Woodlands, and also better my PB barbel.

Current personal best captures include:Barbel 11lb 11oz (river Trent)
Carp 16lb 7oz (Woodlands)
