Name:John McGough

Lives in:Ringwood, Hampshire

Occupation:Retired (Feels good😎)

Angling Category:Generally I’m a barbel/Chub Angler but enjoy fishing the lakes in the ‘close season’.

Describe yourself as an angler: I’ve fished for over 50 years and specifically for Barbel and Chub for 30+ years. I love targeting Barbel in the crystal clear waters of the Hampshire Avon. I caught my first double in 1994 and have had over 600 since then from many rivers across the country. I’ve also had a trio of doubles in a day from 6 different rivers including the Hampshire Avon, Dorset Stour, Severn, Warwickshire Avon, Trent and Kennet. I also enjoy fishing abroad including Canada, Canaries and more recently Australia.

Favourite Venue:Hampshire Avon

Favourite Species:Barbel

Favourite Method/Approach:Sight fishing/stalking

Favourite Hinders Bait:Elips pellets, simply the best!

Most memorable session:On a recent trip to the River Trent in a single day session I had 39 Barbel which included 13 doubles.

Target for the next 12months:I’ve done so many targets and now I’m retired I just intend to enjoy my fishing wherever I am.
