A Barbel Blitz Bonanza on the River Trent

John’s 4-Day Session Using the Blitz Range

What happens when you combine experience, precision, and the right baiting strategy?

For John, it meant 85 barbel in just four days, including 11 doubles and five over 12lb, during a standout session on the River Trent. Below, he shares the full story and exact baiting approach that made it happen.

Days 1–2: Targeting the Non-Tidal Middle Trent

John began the trip on a day-ticket stretch of the middle, non-tidal River Trent.

"We fished with Elips Pellets in PVA bags, placed in the boat channel mid-river. Every couple of hours, we topped up the swim using a Spomb with a mix of small Elips and hemp, all glugged with Blitz Liquid Food Concentrate."

The results were immediate and consistent. John landed 46 barbel up to 12.6lb, while his fishing partner Martin also enjoyed steady action.

Days 3–4: Collingham Chaos on the Tidal Trent

The second half of the session took place at Collingham on the tidal stretch of the Trent, and things intensified.

"It was absolute carnage. Double hook-ups, fish after fish. I had to drop to a single rod because there was no way to manage two at once."

Fishing exclusively with the Blitz range, John used plain Blitz Boilies either in meshed bags launched into the weir or as large single hookbaits wrapped in paste. The approach paid off with a standout day that produced 39 barbel.

"I’ve fished this stretch for about 10 years, and while the fishing is incredible, it’s incredibly demanding. You have to be fully focused from the moment you cast out."
