This morning I woke up to a savage take that I assumed was one of the gravel pits carp. After a long hard fight I managed to get the fish under the rod tip, and a few minutes of heavy lunges and not being able to get it up off the bottom I was convinced I was going to see a carp pop up on the surface only to see a enormous tench break the surface.

I quickly realised I had a very special fish on the end and a short while later I slid the net under it. I thought my chance of a double this spring was long gone so to get an 11lb 3oz fish as my first bite back from lockdown I was over the moon. I followed it up with a fish of 8lb 10oz too.

Both caught on a Beta'nana pop up trimmed down with a few maggots on top and a pva bag of Elips pellet.
