Name:Dan Smith

Lives in:Basingstoke

Occupation:Gas Engineer

Angling Category:Carp Angler

Describe yourself as an angler: I’m very much a Carp angler, I often get ideas in my head about trying to catch other species but then just go Carp fishing and love it. I get very limited fishing time due to family and work commitments often weeks that I’m unable to get away, so I’ve learnt in recent years to only push to go when everything looks good for a bite or two and then maximise it however I can.

Favourite Venue:Reading and District Angling Association (RDAA)

Favourite Species:Mirror Carp

Favourite Method/Approach:Stalking or any method that you can see them

Favourite Hinders Bait:Blitz range

Most memorable session: I had lost the fishing bug for a couple of years with no direction in my angling just odd sessions slotting in on whatever lake on my busy club ticket, summer 2014 my friend found out about a lake that was quiet, his Dad had been Tench fishing it for a while and seen a few Carp. We did a few walks round and decided we would start off with a long session on our chosen swims, I caught more Carp on that trip than I did in the rest of the time on that lake, including an old 30lb plus Mirror that really got the buzz back.

Target for the next 12month: Catch as many as I can from the syndicate and hopefully a couple more of the A team. I would also like a big Barbel.

Current Personal Best Captures include:

  • Mirror Carp - 55lb 4oz UK

  • Mirror Carp - 51lb France

  • Common Carp - 38lb 12oz UK

  • Common Carp - 50lb France
