Name:Joe Fowler

Lives in:Scunthorpe, N. Lincs

Occupation:School – Year 9 (13 years old)

Angling Category:Match Angler

Describe yourself as an angler:I’ve been fishing since I was five years old, following in the footsteps of my grandad, uncles, and dad — angling has always been in my blood. From the moment I first cast a line, I was hooked. I started out fishing with a whip for silvers before progressing to pole fishing and taking on the challenge of targeting bigger fish, which quickly became a passion.

More recently, my angling has taken a competitive turn. I now fish regular matches as a member of a local fishing club, competing not only against other juniors but also in adult matches. Through experience, learning, and dedication, I’ve shown that I can compete at that level. I thrive on the challenge of match fishing and am excited to keep learning, improving, and pushing myself further in the sport.

Favourite Venue: Away from my home club water at Northmoor Fisheries which I love, my standout venue must be Messingham Sands Fishery — a place that never fails to deliver ever since I started out on my fishing journey. Simply a brilliant place.

Favourite Species: It must be Carp — especially a big, fully scaled mirror that makes the heart race. That said, there is something truly special about a stunning, golden crucian… absolute perfection.

Favourite Method/Approach:Without a doubt, Summer Margin Fishing. When it all kicks off close in, it’s pure adrenaline — explosive takes, and unforgettable battles.

Favourite Hinders Bait:Nut 365 Expander Mix— simply outstanding. Consistent, reliable, and deadly effective. Once you’ve used it, you’ll know exactly why it’s a firm favourite.

Most memorable session:I have two standout sessions. Winning my first club summer league match, while hitting my PB match weight was unforgettable — but entering my first adult open match at Messingham Sands and winning it… unreal!

Target for the next 12 months:Continue progressing in match fishing, level up my rod-and-reel skills, aim for the Angling Trust Talent Pathway, and chase down a brand-new species 👊🎣
