So what can I say. An amazing couple of days down Linear Fisheries Official with Angling With Steve Clarke. We went down with a target of beating my PB of 18lb12oz. Steve taught me a lot about ‘proper’ carp fishing and talked me through all the setups, methods and logic behind everything he was doing.
We managed to get a swim on the busy B2, not the best but at least we could fish. We started off by finding a clear patch about 80 yards out and got 3 Ronnie rigs out, with XO Pop Ups as bait, and spomb’d out a mix of Beta’nana Boilies, hemp and hemp hearts (which we topped up regularly). For the first 10 hours not much happened, then just after lunch the right hand alarm screamed and fish on! This was a stunning 21lb 4oz Common, and beat my PB straight away!
We put some more bait out, and got a new rig out. Then 1 1/2 hours later, the middle rod was off, resulting in a 22lb mirror, again a new PB. More bait and a new rig out, nothing happened for the rest of the day. Next, at 00:30 in the pitch black the left hand alarm was screaming and both Steve and I rushed over to pick it up. After an exhilarating fight in the pitch black, this resulted in my new and current PB of exactly 25lb. Again, we got the rig back out and spomb’d more bait out in the dark.
That, we thought was it and the next morning we packed up all our kit but left the rods out, with the last few bits going into the car, the right hand rod screamed off again. This time the fish put up a cracking fight and eventually slipped into the net at 21lb 13oz. No sooner had we got it in the net, the left hand rod flew off as well, however, it managed to find a weed bed and bumped off. So that was the end of the session, 4 20lb+ carp, with 3 of them being new PBs. What a session, I couldn’t have done it without Steve, his pinpoint accurate and consistent casting and baiting was the key, great teacher and great banter, thank you so much.
