A few Hours On The Severn

The Severn is Britain's longest river, running some 220 miles from Plynlimon in mid Wales down to the Bristol Channel, and it changes character completely along the way. It is the middle and lower river that most of us picture when we think Severn: steady glides, gravel runs, creases tight under the far bank. Barbel are not native here, but since they were introduced in the middle of the last century they have made it one of the great barbel rivers in the country, and the chub stocks are as good as anywhere. That combination is exactly why a day like this can hand you double figures of chub alongside your barbel.
